Up and Gone

A Day In The Life Of Daniel Viator

Tied down?

So when my brother and I decided that we’d be leaving the state, the Sigur Ros concert was really the big thing holding me back. I’d been told they put on a hell of a show and had already purchased tickets months prior so eagerly looked forward to Tuesday, September 30th; rightly so. I don’t claim to be an avid concert-goer, but never have I seen two bands so ecstatic to be performing. No one seemed to know who the “special guest” was until they announced themselves onstage as Parachutes. At any rate, it was a great experience and I took a bunch of pix for the first half of the concert. On that note, if you’re at a concert that allows you to bring in a camera, please, don’t use the fucking flash.

All four Sigur Ros members are unarguably important to this Icelandic band that brings a musical rendition of their beautiful homeland but I have a couple comments about the lead singer and drummer; neither of their names can I spell let alone pronounce so I’ll leave that be for now.

[Lead Singer] He brings so much passion with him during (especially) live performances that I’d probably love/hate to work with him in the studio. I could tell during the few slipups that he had that he was deeply bothered, looking to his friends for support, they would keep playing and nod him on. While this may be unprofessional in some situations I found it to endearing that he cared so much for the audience’s perception of his performance. His unique form of singing and playing requires that kind of passion and musical ingenuity. At one point he was actually singing into his guitar pickups and I thought to myself, “So that’s how he made that sound!” Needless to say (but I will anyways) he’s an extenely talented and creative artist, a rarity these days.

[Drummer] I knew that after their first album (Von), the band had replaced it’s drummer but I had no idea that he was to his successor as Ringo was to Billy Shears. I’ve been listening to this band or years now and it wasn’t until I saw them live that I notices what an extremely talanted drummer they have, playing some of the most complex drumlines I’ve ever heard outside of spring drumline, most of which he maintained for over a minute while the audience clapped along without a clue as to keeping rhythm. Very skilled and tight beats and my hat’s off to this drummer of a band I love so much.

I have two days left at work and I saw Sigur Ros; I’m not tied down anymore…
